A TIME OF RESOLVE, TEXAS A&M DURING THE GREAT DEPRESSION
The exhibition at the Cushing Memorial Library and Archives at Texas A&M University showcases a growing university during the struggles of the Great Depression. The exhibition contains valuable artifacts from of the university’s history. These items tell the story of student life on campus and the thriving Aggie sports program. Including memorabilia from the perfect football season of 1939, which captured the school’s last national football championship. The exhibit documents the reorientation of the campus entrance as well as designs for the ten buildings designed by S.C.P. Vosper, the construction of the Corps Dorms and Easterwood Airport. The exhibition also showcases that despite these great strides, A&M struggled with budget cuts and declining student enrollment. Justin Curtsinger, one of the exhibit editors, selected artifacts pertaining to the campus building program and co-authored the exhibit catalog.
