DALLAS’ DRIVE-IN THEATER

For a certain generation, the drive-in theater will never lose its appeal. Published in the most recent issue of Legacies: A History Journal for Dallas and North Central Texas, Nancy McCoy’s article entitled “Dallas’ Contribution to the Drive-in Theater,” documents the connection between the drive-in theater phenomenon, that started in the 1940s and lasted into the 1970s, and Dallas. Two men based in Dallas started and remained influential in the development of the drive-in in Texas, and the article documents their contributions. In the same issue of Legacies is a related article on theater and film developer, McLendon, for those interested in our legacy to low budget film., and an article on the history of Fair Park’s Hall of State design cannot go unmentioned. Nancy will also give a talk on Dallas’ Drive-In Theaters to the Oak Cliff Society of Fine Arts (OCSFA), Salon Series, at the Turner House on October 21st from 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM.
