EBBY HALLIDAY

Ebby Halliday, the person and the business, is one of the most acclaimed and respected success stories in Dallas’ history. Her life was her work and vice-versa and during a time when it was not so easily done by women, she managed to build her namesake real estate business from the ground up while promoting her profession in developing ethics and technology, women in the work place, and her beloved Dallas. She was a prolific speaker throughout the United States and, at times, abroad. In many of these speeches, she offered delightful advice such as “At Ebby Halliday Realtors, we expect women to act like ladies and do business like men.” Like Juanita Craft and Melissa Pierce, she dedicated much time and money to causes affecting the education of children.

She built offices all over Dallas, but none as well-known as that located at the corner of Northwest Highway and Preston Road. Built in 1926 and used as real estate offices by Ira P. Deloache, the building was an indistinct wood residence with a small addition until Ms. Halliday extensively renovated it in 1964. Much like the woman herself, the “Little White House” remains one of the most iconic buildings in Dallas. McCoy Collaborative is thankful for the opportunity to conduct extensive research and documentation of Ms. Halliday’s legacy and the building that best represents it.
