Architecture that Speaks: C S P Vosper and Ten Remarkable Buildings at Texas A&M
College Station, Texas
Dallas County contracted with McCoy Collaborative to provide professional services associated with the repair or replacement of windows and condition survey of the masonry on the historic Texas School Book Depository Building, known today as the Dallas County Administration Building. The seven story building was constructed in 1902-1903 for its owner, Southern Rock Island Plow Company. Prior to 1963, the building was renamed the School Book Depository and significantly altered by removal of wood windows on the lower floors and replacement with aluminum windows.
Dallas County acquired the building in late 1977 and began restoration and renovation efforts. The introduction of the Sixth Floor Museum brought about changes in 1988, 1994 and 2010. The deteriorating condition of masonry and windows and the 2017 Window and Masonry Assessment Report by MCPA led the County to further investigate repairs to the building envelope. After the Condition Assessment, McCoy Collaborative prepared a detailed probe and testing investigation to further understand condition and cost and scope.
