Magnolia Lounge Restoration

Fair Park’s Magnolia Lounge was built by the Magnolia Oil Company for the Texas Centennial Exposition in 1936. It is known as the first and a rare example of International Style architecture in Dallas and it was home to the Margo Jones Theater, the first regional theater company.  William Lescaze, a Swiss-born architect that was practicing in New York was brought to Dallas by Stanley Marcus for this project. Lescaze is known as a master practitioner in the International style and this is his only work in Texas. The project includes exterior repairs to the plaster and stone building envelope as well as minor interior improvements. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is part of the National Register Fair Park Historic District, a National Historic Landmark, a State Archeological Landmark and a City of Dallas Landmark.
