Wallace Residence

This 1936 residence, designed by Charles Stevens Dilbeck, is located in Preston Hollow and had received multiple additions over its lifespan. MCPA worked with the current owners to remove a porte-cochere to reveal the original entrance, replace missing elements such as a classic Dilbeck feature of a brick screen in front of a window to the powder room, and the cement waterproofing “whitewash” that Dilbeck used on most of his brick buildings. Returning the “whitewash” was achieved by paint stripping to reveal it again and by infill treatment to address the newer brick that had caused the brick to be painted in the first place. A color scheme based on the original paint colors, was used on the historic areas while the newer additions remain painted out. The exterior work was completed in 2022. MCPA has also designed a garage addition that should be completed by 2023.
